Brian Roughton began his classical guitar studies at the Carver Creative and Performing Arts Center in Montgomery Alabama in 1988. From 1991-95 he attended Stetson University on a music scholarship. While at Stetson he studied composition with Paul Langston, and guitar with Stephen Robinson and Ricardo Cobo. Upon completion of a BM in guitar performance Brian moved to Connecticut where he attended the Yale School of Music. At Yale, Mr. Roughton studied guitar with Benjamin Verdery, and composition with Joe Rubinstein, and Harold Meltzer. In 1997 he completed an MM in guitar performance at Yale and returned to Montgomery to begin a career as a guitar instructor.

Guitar lessons in Prattville, AL

Over the years people have asked me how early to start their children with music lessons. For piano, age four or five is ideal. Because guitar requires more physical coordination, I usually don't teach children under the age of six. In this instance I decided to break my rule to give my daughter a head start. This video was taken about 3 months before her fifth birthday. We began doing guitar on a regular basis in the fall of 2009.

Impassioned

The song "Impassioned was the first piece I composed after the completion of the Album "Songs For My Funeral". I had originally planned on making this track the first one on the upcoming CD but after writing all of the music I decided that this one was better suited as a single. I recorded the first track a couple weeks ago at my house, and was so happy with the sound of the guitar that I decided to release it "as is" with no edits. A couple of days before that I had recorded the song on my back porch so I thought that would be fun for you to hear. When in the presence of nature I feel very much at peace and this was my attempt to convey that to you...
